The Other Woman

October 26th, 2008 - Comments Off on The Other Woman

After the madness that was ‘The Constant’ this episode doesn’t venture nearly as far, in fact its all set on the island, including the flashbacks.

Juliet is sitting in a room, looks like she’s waiting for someone, a woman comes in and introduces herself as Harper. Juliet begins to explain that she doesn’t think that she needs therapy, Harper suggests that they just “call it talking” instead. We then find out Juliet has “been here a week” (at this point we still don’t know where “here” is exactly). Juliet tells Harper that she doesn’t really like being treated like a celebrity, or being the centre of attention.

There’s a knock at the door, and its Tom, we now know that we are on the island. This interruption ends their “talk” and as Harper leaves she says “Welcome to the island”. Tom takes Juliet to meet with Ben who is waiting outside one of the houses in the other’s village. Ben tells Juliet that it’s hers. She tells Ben that they shouldn’t have gone to all the trouble as she’s only going to be there for 6 months.

Current time, back on the beach and Juliet is setting up her shelter, Sun offers to lend a hand, then Jack approaches asking if they’ve seen Charlotte and Dan as they are both missing and their stuff is gone. Jin says that he saw them head off into the jungle.

The four of them set off to try and track down Charlotte and Dan. Once in the jungle Juliet begins to hear the whispers, and when she turns around Harper is standing behind her. Harper says “long time no see”, and tells Juliet that she’s there to deliver a message from Ben.

Season 4 Episode 5

The Constant

October 5th, 2008 - Comments Off on The Constant

So… Its only taken about 6 months to get back to finishing this post, it was going to be tough to get it to make sense to begin with, but with a huge break in the middle of writing it it was even harder, sorry about that. Lets get on with it.

Des flashes back…then forward…repeat. Flashback? no, not really. Remember the episode ‘flashes before your eyes’ from last season, kind of like that only way better.

The episode picks up where we left Sayid and Des a couple of episodes back, they are on the helicopter and heading towards the freighter. Des is looking at the photo of him with Penny. Frank is looking at a map that Daniel drew for him, which he was told to follow very closely. Struggling to control the chopper Frank flies straight into what Sayid calls a “thunderhead”… we’ll call it a storm.

Des awakes, all clean shaven, and at an Army barracks. He says that he was having a dream, and that he was on a helicopter, and he was in a storm… hang on a second. We snap back to the chopper, and Des is freaking out, he’s got no idea where he is, what he’s doing, or who on earth Sayid is.

Missing Pieces Episode 13

So It Begins

September 21st, 2008 - Comments Off on So It Begins

Ok, so this is the last “Missing Piece” (and yes it took me a little longer than I hoped to get through them all). But this is definitely my favourite one, and its certainly the most Lost-like of them all.

The camera is moving through the grass, as though its looking for something, as its going along it comes across an open suitcase on the ground with clothes scattered everywhere. You can kind of hear the panting so you can assume at this point that we are looking from Vincent’s perspective (plus we’ve seen things from this view before).

Vincent moves on continuing to search, when there is a whistle from the distance. As Vincent approaches we see a familiar pair of white shoes… its Christian Shephard, he calls Vincent over. How does he know Vincent’s name, and how can Vincent see/hear him??

Christian tells Vincent that he needs him to go and find his son (Jack), he says “he’s over then in that bamboo forest, unconscious, I need you to go wake him up”, and he sends Vincent off. As Vincents runs off, the camera goes back to Christian who says “he has work to do”. I would assume that the “he” he refers to is Jack.

Missing Pieces Episode 9

The Envelope

September 14th, 2008 - Comments Off on The Envelope

Unlike all the other Missing Pieces which were filmed specifically to be shown as “mobisodes”, this one is actually a deleted scene from “A Tale of Two Cities” (the season 3 premiere). It appears to be set just prior to the book club meeting that we see at the beginning of season 3.

As it begins there a smoke alarm going off and Juliet rushes into the kitchen where the muffins she was baking are burning, as she gets them out she grabs onto the pan and burns herself. The doorbell rings, and its Amelia (thanks Lostpedia)… I’m pretty sure the only time we’ve seen her before is in the season 3 premiere at the book club meeting. Anyway.

Amelia starts to question Juliet, she asks “its him isn’t it?”, Juliet knows who she means but responds “who?”, “Ben.”. Amelia asks if she invited him today, Juliet says that things have gotten awkward. Amelia asks Juliet if he finally told her how he felt (something we don’t end up finding out until later in season 3). Juliet says he didn’t say anything, that its just complicated.

Missing Pieces Episode 8

Jin Has a Temper-Tantrum on the Golf Course

September 7th, 2008 - Comments Off on Jin Has a Temper-Tantrum on the Golf Course

The title of this piece sums it all up pretty well. Jin, Hurley and Michael are playing golf on the island. Jin is lining up a putt to win, and when he misses the putt Hurley congratulates Michael on winning and then Jin starts to throw his tantrum.

From Jin’s ranting it would appear that he’s just upset because no-one on the island understands him, he think they all pity him (or at leats that Hurley and Michael do) and he doesn’t like it. He just wants something to go right and to get of “this horrible island”. As Jin begins to calm down he’s just sitting there saying to himself “I’m so alone”.

Only two more ‘Missing Pieces’ to go, including the last one which I think is probably the best one. Its also been semi-confirmed that the ‘Missing Pieces’ will be one of the additional features on the Season 4 DVDs when they are released in a couple of months.

Missing Pieces Episode 2

Jack, Meet Ethan. Ethan? Jack.

August 24th, 2008 - Comments Off on Jack, Meet Ethan. Ethan? Jack.

This piece would appear to take place not too long after the crash, as they are still on the beach and Jack is still working to gather all the medical supplies together. Jack is going through a suitcase (probably not his own) when Ethan approaches and asks if he’s the doctor. He says that he’d heard that Jack was rounding up all the medicine and that he might want this.

Ethan opens up a whole suitcase full of different medicine and various other medical bits and pieces. Ethan says “there must have been a hypochondriac or something”. Jack asks him where he found it to which Ethan simply replies “out in the jungle”. What he probably meant was “from the huge stash of medical supplies at our little community in the middle of the island, where there is a bunch of us just waiting to invade your camp and abduct you and your people…”

Ethan then thanks Jack for organising things, having a little perspective, he says that everyone else is just waiting for rescue and that he thinks Jack is smart. Jack makes a comment that “its nice to know I’m not alone”, Ethan replies “your definitely not alone”.

During their conversation Ethan refers to Claire, mentioning that Jacks probably thinking that he’s going to have to deliver her baby on the island. Jack says that at least he’ll have someone to lend a hand, but Ethan goes quiet. As Ethan gets up to leave he stops and tells Jack that his wife had died during child birth, and that their baby didn’t survive either, which is obviously why he went quiet earlier.

Missing Pieces Episode 11

Tropical Depression

July 20th, 2008 - Comments Off on Tropical Depression

I’ll say this now, this is probably the stupidest Missing Piece, very much just a “filler”.

Arzt is sneaking along, looks like “hunting” something, he’s talking to himself, and then he dives on top of a spider and traps it in a jar. The spider looks a lot like one of the spiders that led to the not-so-unfortunate demise of Nikki and Paulo.

Just as Arzt catches the spider Michael approaches asking what the wind is going to be like tomorrow. Arzt hesitates, and then looks back at Michael telling him that he doesn’t know. He goes on to say he’s just a high school science teacher and that all the things he’d told them about “monsoon season” were just made up. He says he made it up because he just wanted to get the raft built so they could be rescued.

Michael gets up to leave and Arzt starts talking. He says that he fell in love with a woman in Australia, that he’d met her on the internet… Michael sits back down. He starts waffling on about how he saved up his money and flew to Australia to meet her, and then she stood him up, blah blah blah…

The only thing I found interesting was that he says that instead of hanging around in Sydney he booked an early flight out on Oceanic 815, another case of a last minute change of plans resulting in someone ending up on 815. Michael (who have you noticed is in an awful lot of these mini-eps) doesn’t show much sympathy.

Michael tells Arzt that the raft is finished and they are ready to leave, Arzt says he’ll be the first one there ready to greet the rescue when it arrives. Or at least he would have been if he didn’t blow himself up playing with the dynamite form the Black Rock. What a shame…

Missing Pieces Episode 5

Buried Secrets

July 13th, 2008 - Comments Off on Buried Secrets

Sun is watching Jin on the beach where he is fishing (just for something different), she turns and heads off into the jungle. A little way in she stops and takes something out of her pocket. We see that its a Californian drivers license, and that it has a false name on it. She crouches down and starts digging a small hole into which she puts the license.

Just as Sun drops the license in to the hole, Michael appears, he’s calling out looking for Vincent. Michael asks Sun if she’s ok, and she glances down at the hole that she’d been digging. Michael bends down and picks up the license, and Sun starts to explain before Michael stops her and hand her the license. Sun then says that she was going to leave Jin, and start a new life in America, but she had changed her mind at the airport. This is another example of a last minute “change of plans” that resulted in one of the losties ending up on 815.

Michael reassures Sun that they will get off the island and everything will be alright, but Sun says that being on the island is her punishment, her destiny. She says that Jin is no longer the man that she fell in love with. They are just about to kiss when good ol’ Vincent appears to spoil the moment. Could have been worse though, what if it was Jin with his fishing spear.

Missing Pieces Episode 12

Arzt and Crafts

July 6th, 2008 - Comments Off on Arzt and Crafts

Sun and Jin are discussing the relationship between, Jin thinks that they are lovers, but Sun says that they are Brother and Sister. Jin questions sun as to how she knows (at this point he doesn’t know she can speak English), she says its just a guess.

Then Arzt runs in talking about people going to the caves, he starts to ask Jin and Sun if they are going, but Hurley interrupts reminding him that they don’t speak English) Arzt then turns to ask Michael, and Michael says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Arzt in his typical frantic (semi-crazy-science-teacher) kind of way explains that Jack, that bald guy and whats-er-face found some caves and they think that everyone should move from the beaches to the caves.

Hurley queries “why shouldn’t we”, which only starts Arzt off again. He rattle off a few (crazy) reasons not to go to the caves including: moisture, caves a re abundant with moisture, moisture breeds bacteria, bacteria attracts insects that would lay eggs in their mouths while they sleep…

He then goes turns back to Jin and Sun and starts talking to them again, but this time louder, and slower. Michael points out that this won’t he them understand. Arzt is trying to convince Jin and Sun to vote ‘no’ if there is a vote as to whether to go to the caves or not. Hurley says that because Jack says its a good idea that maybe they should trust him, Arzt doesn’t like this either, and starts going on about Jack could be a nutcase, because he saw him running through the jungle “crying for his daddy”.

Arzt then says that if they want to go to the caves they can, but he’s going to stay right there on the beach with all the people who want to survive. Cue the monster. There the typical monster ‘noise’ from season 1 and a few trees rustle around, and all of a sudden Arzt has a change of heart. “I’ll see you guys at the caves.”

Missing Pieces Episode 4

Room 23

June 29th, 2008 - Comments Off on Room 23

This missing piece is all about Walt, but he’s not shown and his name isn’t even mentioned.

When it starts Juliet is standing in a corridor, and there are people rushing by with an alarm going off in the background. Ben approaches from the end of the corridor, and asks what’s happening, Juliet replies “he did it again”. Ben questions this, “did what again?”, Juliet says “you know”.

Ben tells Juliet that she’s going to have to ask him to stop doing it. Juliet refuses to go into the room, says no one else will go in there either because they are all scared. They talk about ‘him’ (Walt) and Ben says that it was Jacob that wanted him there because he’s special. Juliet disagrees, she says he’s dangerous. She takes Ben outside to show him something.

Once they are outside Juliet says “what kind of a child does this?” and shows Ben a ‘collection’ of dead birds on the staircase, just below a boarded up window which we can assume is the window to Room 23 where Walt is being kept. I suppose whatever “it” is that he’s doing is resulting in the dead birds.
