There is only one thing that I hate about Lost, and that is that its shown in the US before it is here in Australia. Its not Lost’s fault though, its the fault of the stupid television networks in this part of the world. As a result I download the latest episode as they a shown (and, yes, I watch it again when its on TV, especially now that its shown in HD), otherwise I run the risk of having the whole thing spoiled before I get to see it. Mind you, Channel 7 do a good enough job of spoiling major plot points in their “promos” almost every week.

So while I wait for the Season 5 premiere to finish, I’m going to have a look at a few questions that sprung to mind during my re-watching of the Season 4 finale over the past two nights. I think this might be a better format for my recap posts to take, since the “full recaps” were taking way to much time to prepare and write, which is why I only ever managed to get half of Season 4 done. Anyway, on with the questions.

Where is Claire?

She wandered off into the jungle one night, and since then we’ve seen her just once, in the cabin with Christian Shephard. The real question I guess is, is Claire dead? Its been reported that Claire won’t be seen in at least the first half of season 5, but that itself doesn’t mean she’s dead. I think that given we’ve seen her “appear” to Kate in a dream in the future that we can assume that she is dead at that time (the future), but I’m not convinced that she’s dead yet on the island. And if she is actually dead, who killed her? Zombie Ethan?….

Why did they choose Boone, Libby and Charlie for their story?

When the Oceanic Six front up to their press conference they name those passengers who “survived the crash, but died on the island”. The name Boone, Libby and Charlie. Why did they pick these three out of all the people that had died. Charlie perhaps because he was famous, but why Boone and not Shannon, why Libby and not Ana Lucia, Mr Eko, Dr Arzt, Jin etc etc. There would have to be a reason why. The second episode in season 5 is entitled “The Lie” so theres a chance that we might find out then.

Who was Ben communicating with using the mirror?

Since Alpert and the other find Kate and Sayid and then help rescue Ben, I guessing that it was just Alpert that he was communicating, nothing too mysterious about it. Although before we see Alpert there was always the chance he was communicating with someone else, even Jacob maybe.

Why do they have Christian Shepherd’s memorial service 6 months after they get rescued?

Hardly a huge plot point but since it was the only thing Jack wanted to do when he got back, it seemed a little odd that the memorial was held so long after they were rescued. How do we know this? Because Jack say something about “10 months ago he put his Fathers coffin on a plane”, and they were on the island for a bit over three months meaning this must have taken place around 6 months after they got back. But why?

How did the bomb end up on the boat without anybody knowing about it?

Keamy obviously knew it was there, but did anyone else? (besides his men). You’d think that none of Miles, Dan, Charlotte or Frank did, otherwise they would have warned them. But then Dan was pretty worked up about needing to get off the island ASAP, so perhaps he knew something. Also was the bomb originally intended to be used to blow the boat up? I don’t think it was the original plan, but once it got to a point where Keamy worked out that the losties would try and used it to flee the island he set it up to destroy the boat and anyone on it.

Why was Locke using the name Jeremy Bentham off the island?
I’d say we’ll find this out a some point in Season 5. Is it just so he can go undetected when back on the mainland? Does it have something to do with where/when the island went after Ben moved it? Does he assume a new name once he takes over as leader of the Others? Was he just tired of having a mono-syllabic name?

What did Miles mean when he said Charlotte spent a long time trying to get back to the Island?

When Miles continues “yes, what do I mean?” you could be forgiven to think he’s just playing with her mind. But I think it goes deeper than that. Remember when Charlotte found the polar bear in the desert, with the Dharma collar? When she looked at the Dharma logo, she recognised it, or at least thats the impression I got. Later Charlotte tells Dan that she’s “still looking for where she was born”, Dan doesn’t understand. So was Charlotte born on the Island? That would be interesting for a couple of reasons, how did she survived being born I thought all babies dies on the island, how did she get off the island after she was born, whats her connection to the island (Dharma probably).

Did Sayid kill Bentham, or does he know who did?

I don’t think Sayid killed Bentham, but there was something about the way that he told Hurley that “they said it was suicide” that suggested he knew more than he was telling. Another reason it wouldn’t have been Sayid is that he’s working with Ben, and Ben would want assist Bentham not kill him. Right? Probably a good chance that someone connected to Charles Widmore is responsible, a bit odd if thats the case, shouldn’t they have used him to find the island for themselves? My random pick for the killer, Sun.

What exactly are the “common interests” between Sun and Charles Widmore?

They both hate Ben. They both want to find the island, Widmore “because its his” Sun because she probably doesn’t believe that Jin is dead. I found it interesting that Widmore pretended that he didn’t know who she was, but yet knew who Mr Paik was, but then he didn’t deny not knowing her when she asked him. You’d think its a pretty safe bet that Widmore knows exactly who was on the plane, afterall he dropped a fake plane into a ditch and claimed it was Flight 815.

Where is the Island?

Ben turned the ‘donkey wheel’ and the island vanished. Where did it go? I’ve already written a lengthy post about it, but I still think that its more when than where, hopefully we find out in the premiere, although it would be fine if they went along for a couple of episodes like nothing was different and then “bam”…

Why does Claire tell Kate not to take Aaron back to the Island?
Back to me theory about Claire not being dead as a result of her wandering off into the jungle, I think she’ll die later on. We already know that “bad things happened” after the Oceanic Six left, numerous deaths would be a “bad thing”. So Claire doesn’t want Aaron taken back because she knows what’s been happening on the island since they left, either that or she has worked out that Aaron is a super baby with super powers that the others are waiting to gain control of to take over the world.

After the madness that was ‘The Constant’ this episode doesn’t venture nearly as far, in fact its all set on the island, including the flashbacks.

Juliet is sitting in a room, looks like she’s waiting for someone, a woman comes in and introduces herself as Harper. Juliet begins to explain that she doesn’t think that she needs therapy, Harper suggests that they just “call it talking” instead. We then find out Juliet has “been here a week” (at this point we still don’t know where “here” is exactly). Juliet tells Harper that she doesn’t really like being treated like a celebrity, or being the centre of attention.

There’s a knock at the door, and its Tom, we now know that we are on the island. This interruption ends their “talk” and as Harper leaves she says “Welcome to the island”. Tom takes Juliet to meet with Ben who is waiting outside one of the houses in the other’s village. Ben tells Juliet that it’s hers. She tells Ben that they shouldn’t have gone to all the trouble as she’s only going to be there for 6 months.

Current time, back on the beach and Juliet is setting up her shelter, Sun offers to lend a hand, then Jack approaches asking if they’ve seen Charlotte and Dan as they are both missing and their stuff is gone. Jin says that he saw them head off into the jungle.

The four of them set off to try and track down Charlotte and Dan. Once in the jungle Juliet begins to hear the whispers, and when she turns around Harper is standing behind her. Harper says “long time no see”, and tells Juliet that she’s there to deliver a message from Ben.

She tells Juliet that Charlotte and Dan are headed to the Tempest, and if they figure out how to deploy the gas, everyone will die. When Juliet asks how she is supposed to stop them, Harper tells her to do it “by pointing the gun and pulling the trigger”. Then Jack shows up, the whispers begin again, and Harper vanishes.

Flash back. Juliet discovers Goodwin going through the medical supplies, he’s looking for something to put on a burn (apparently from the electrical station). He and Juliet have a discussion about why she is on the island (to try and work out why babies and their mothers die on the island). Juliet tells Goodwin that she doesn’t like Harper, and she thinks that she is “mean and spiteful”. Goodwin reveals to her that Harper is his wife. Juliet says that if he doesn’t tell Harper what she said, she won’t tell people he lied about his burn, and that she knows a chemical burn when she sees one.

Back on the search, and Juliet tells Jack that the Tempest is an electrical station that powers the island. Charlotte and Dan are by a creek checking their map. Dan says that he’s having doubts about whether or not he can do “it”, Charlotte reassures him. Kate appears out of the bushes and startles them, Charlotte pulls her gun on Kate before Dan talks her down.

Charlotte spins a story to Kate that Jack had been trying to get in contact with Sayid and Des on the freighter and the sat phone had run out of juice. As Charlotte is talking Kate notices the (still working) sat phone amongst their gear. Charlotte says they are searching for the spare batteries that were in the packs that they dropped from the chopper.

Kate asks Dan what is in the bag that he is carrying, she asks if she can look inside. Although he’s reluctant he lets Kate open the bag and have a look. As Kate discovers the gas masks Charlotte whacks her over the back of the head knocking her out.

Flash back. Juliet is explaining to Ben what she thinks the problem, she says that it only affects those who conceive on the island. Goodwin shows up looking for Juliet, he’s supposedly there to offer her a sandwich, Juliet declines. As Goodwin leaves, Ben doesn’t seem amused by his visit.

Juliet is having another meeting with Harper, they are talking about Ben. Juliet says how Ben has been really good to her. Harper responds, under her breath, “thats because you look just like her”. Before Juliet can question that, Harper starts questioning Juliet about Goodwin. She asks “when did you start sleeping with him”, and when Juliet tries to deny, she says she knows because she followed them. Harper tells Juliet to end it or there will be consequences, not from her but from Ben.

Over in the other’s camp Claire questions Locke about Miles, she says that she’d like to talk to him. She wants to find out who they are and why they aren’t here to rescue them. She suggests to Locke that maybe they are taking the wrong approach. Locke refuses to let Claire see Miles.

Locke takes some food to Ben, who is still being held captive. When Ben notices that its rabbit he asks if it had a number on it (the magic time traveling bunnies from the Dharma video had numbers on them). Ben tries to play mind games with Locke, and Locke asks Ben if he’s got a plan, and if that plan involves $3.2 million. Ben seemed a little surprised that Locke knew about it.

Ben tells Locke that they share a common enemy, and its not the freighters but its who they work for. He asks Locke to let him out of the basement and he’ll tell him everything he knows. When Locke turns down his offer Ben says “I guess I’ll just have to show you”.

Flash back. Juliet and Goodwin are having lunch by the water. They are talking about why they are being so secretive about their relationship. Juliet says its because of Ben (and what he’d do), not Goodwin’s wife. He says that he works everyday with chemicals that could kill everyone if he flipped the wrong switch, so he’s not really worried about Ben. Then cuts to the scene from the beginning of “A Tale of Two Cities” when the others see Flight 815 crash and Ben sends Ethan and Goodwin off to investigate.

Jack and Juliet are running through the jungle, still searching for Charlotte and Dan, when they come across Kate, Jack tends to Kate and Juliet goes to get water. Kate tells him that she ran into Charlotte and Dan, and that Charlotte knocked her out. She tells him that they were carrying gas masks, at which points Jack calls out for Juliet, who has conveniently disappeared.

Locke has now let Ben out of the basement, and Ben tells him to look behind the picture on the wall. There is a safe (combination 36,15,28), inside the safe there is a video labelled “red sox”, Ben tells him to ignore the label, he taped over the game. The video is of Charles Widmore, who is seen getting out of his car. Ben tells Locke that he is the owner of the freighter, and that he’s been trying to find the island.

The video then shows Widmore beating up one of Ben’s people who caught. Ben goes back over to the safe and takes out a file, which he gives to Locke, and says it contains everything that he knows about Charles Widmore. Locke tells Ben that there’s one more thing that he wants to know, who is his man on the boat. Ben says “you might want to sit down”.

Jack and Kate are now tracking Juliet in addition to Charlotte and Dan. Jack asks Kate why she stayed at the others camp with Locke. She tells Jack that she needed to find out if the freighter people knew who she was and what she did, which they do. Meanwhile Juliet arrives at the Tempest, it looks like Charlotte and Dan are already inside, she opens the door and heads in.

Flash back. Juliet arrives at Ben’s expecting a dinner party, only to find out its just dinner for two. She asks Ben when Goodwin is expected back from being “undercover” in the tailies camp. She says its a risk having him there since Ethan was killed. Ben doesn’t really care, and seems quite pleased that Goodwin isn’t around.

Back to Juliet entering the Tempest, there are alarms sounding and a message saying something about the switching to manual override isn’t authorised. She then sees Dan at the computer on a lower level. Another alarm sounds, signaling 1 minute until contamination. When Juliet confronts Dan he says that he’s trying to make the gas inert to make it safe. Charlotte attacks Juliet from behind.

Juliet and Charlotte fight while Dan works away at the computer, in the end Juliet over powers Charlotte and demands that she tell Dan to stop whatever he’s doing. Charlotte says they are trying to disable the gas before (Ben) can use it against them. She says that they know that he’s used the gas before (for the purge). With two seconds remaining on the countdown, Dan successfully disables the gas.

Flash back. Ben comes to visit Juliet, she is in the process of reading through Jack’s file that she received from Mikhail. She tells Ben that he’s a spinal surgeon and that he could help him. Ben doesn’t seem very interested in the news. After a short pause he asks Juliet to come with him.

He takes her out into the island where he shows her Goodwin’s impaled body which was discovered on the side of a hill. Juliet asks Ben why he would bring her out to see it. Ben retorts “what? instead of his wife”. Juliet accuses Ben of sending Goodwin because he knew that he’d end up dead. Ben begins to get angry and says to Juliet that after all the trouble he went through to get her and to keep her on the island that she should understand that “your mine”. He then walks off.

Juliet and Charlotte are leaving the Tempest just as Kate and Jack turn up. Kate pulls her gun, Juliet tries to reassure Kate telling her that they are “on our side”, Kate questions “our side?”. Charlotte says that she can explain how they just saved everyones lives, and takes Kate into the Tempest.

Juliet explains to Jack how Ben wanted her to kill Charlotte and Dan, and that he knew exactly where they were going and what they were trying to do. She tells him that they came here to wage war against Ben, and that Ben will win, and when he does that Jack should be as far away from her as possible, because of how Ben feels about her, and because Ben knows how she feels about Jack.

Back at the others camp, Hurley and Sawyer are playing horseshoe when they see Ben casually wandering across to one of the houses, he says “see you guys at dinner” and heads inside. Looks like his information has earnt him some form of trust with Locke.

So… Its only taken about 6 months to get back to finishing this post, it was going to be tough to get it to make sense to begin with, but with a huge break in the middle of writing it it was even harder, sorry about that. Lets get on with it.

Des flashes back…then forward…repeat. Flashback? no, not really. Remember the episode ‘flashes before your eyes’ from last season, kind of like that only way better.

The episode picks up where we left Sayid and Des a couple of episodes back, they are on the helicopter and heading towards the freighter. Des is looking at the photo of him with Penny. Frank is looking at a map that Daniel drew for him, which he was told to follow very closely. Struggling to control the chopper Frank flies straight into what Sayid calls a “thunderhead”… we’ll call it a storm.

Des awakes, all clean shaven, and at an Army barracks. He says that he was having a dream, and that he was on a helicopter, and he was in a storm… hang on a second. We snap back to the chopper, and Des is freaking out, he’s got no idea where he is, what he’s doing, or who on earth Sayid is.

Meanwhile Jack is still trying to get in contact with the boat, emphasizing that they’ve been gone for a day. Juliet questions Charlotte as to why she’s not at all worried that it seems to be taking rather long time to get to the freighter. Dan interrupts suggests that maybe “they should just tell them”. He says that their perception of how long they’ve been gone (over a day) is not necessarily how long they have actually been gone for. He warns Jack and Juliet that if Frank didn’t follow his directions correctly that there could be “side effects”.

Back on the helicopter and they emerge from the storm and sight the boat. Interesting that the sky is now a wide expanse of blue, not a storm in sight. Once they land on the freighter (and after he has another freak out) a couple of the crew take Des to see the doctor. Jumps back to the army. Des is standing, in the rain, while everyone else around him is doing sit-ups. He looks just a tiny bit confused (who wouldn’t).

A bit later he tells his mate that earlier he ‘left’, and that he was on a boat, and then all of a sudden he was back. He remembers that he had a photo with Penny in it when he was on the boat and goes to a phone booth to call her. Just before he goes in he drops his change and as he bends down to pick it up he’s suddenly back on the boat.

When asked “where are we” a couple of the freighter say that their last port was in Fiji “so at least (they) know (they’re) in the south pacific”. Just after they’ve locked Des in a voice gets his attention from the other side of the room. There is another man in the room with Des, and he’s tied to the bed. “It’s happening to you to isn’t it?”.

Sayid confronts Frank about why when they took of from the island it was dusk, yet when they landed (presumably less than an hour later) it was the middle of the day. Question is which day? Is it before they took off, or after? I’m guessing probably after but that doesn’t explain why. He gets the phone off Frank and calls Jack. Dan asks Jack if Desmond has been exposed to large amounts of radiation or electro-magnetism recently. Pretty safe bet since he was if the hatch when it ‘exploded’. Dans says that occasionally people get ‘confused’ going to and from the island. How would he know that unless they’ve made (or attempted) numerous trips?

The doctor arrives to see Des, and the other man starts to freak out a bit, the doctor fairly quickly sedates him. He asks Des what he remembers and we jump back to the phone booth. Desmond calls Penny, he tells her that he’s in trouble, that he’s confused and that he needs to see her. Then it jumps back to the boat.

Dan speaks with Desmond over the phone, and when he asks Des what year he thinks it is Des replies ‘1996’. Dan asks him where is supposed to be in 1996 (the army). Dan tells Desmond that ‘next time it happens’ to go to Oxford and find him. After referring to his Journal Dan tells Des that he must tell Dan (in 1996) to set the device to 2.343 and 11Hz. and that is he doesn’t believe him to say that he knows about Eloise. Des scribles this all down on his hand so that he can remember it.

Flashes back to the phone booth, and when Des checks his hand all the information is gone. We then see Des arrive at Oxford where he finds Dan. Now how on earth does he know what Dan looks like? Anyway, he explains to Dan that he thinks he’s just been to the future. Dan thinks it all a prank, then Des tells Dan the numbers, and that he knows about Eloise.

At his lab Dan tries to explain things to Des, and tells him that “you can’t change the future”. Really. After entering the numbers that Des told him, Dan places Eloise (who is a lab rat) into this maze, and points this weird light thing at her, and turns it on. After he turns the light thing off, he says he has to wait for her to “return”, when she does he releases her and she runs the maze perfectly.

The catch is that he only completed the maze that morning and hasn’t taught her to run it yet. In other words he just sent her to the future and she came back knowing how to run the maze. Dan explains that he sent her consciousness to the future. Desmond tells Dan that in the future he’s going to end up on an island. Jumps back to the boat.

He ‘jumps’ back into the middle of a disagreement with some of the freighter people. Once they leave, he says he needs to get back. Sayid calls Des by name which catches the attention of the guy strapped to the bed in the room with them. He says that his name is George Minkowski (the same George the freighter people had been trying to contact from the island in previous episodes). He says that he is/was the communications officer for the boat, and that before they strapped him down all calls to and from the boat went through him.

George says that every so often there would be a flashing light on the console, an incoming call and they were under strict instruction not to answer it. He tells Des that the calls were coming from Penelope Widmore. Back to the past.

Desmond awakes in Dan’s laboratory. Dan tells him that he was ‘out’ for about 75 minutes, Des said that he was only back in the future for about 5 minutes. Dan says that it seems like everytime Des jumps it gets harder for him to jump back. Des asks what happened to Eloise, Dan explains that she died, possibly from a brain aneurism. Des asks if that will happen to him as well, is he going to die. Dan says that he thinks Eloise’s brain might have short circuited, due to the jump back and forward in time. Dan tells him that he needs to find his “contstant”, something that is familiar to him in both times. Des tries to call his constant (Penny), the number has been disconnected, Des leaves and as he’s heading down a flight of stairs he flashes back to the boat again.

Des explains to Sayid that he needs his help, that he needs to call Penny. Minkowski interrupts telling them that 2 days ago they lost all communication with the main land. He says he can take them to the communication room. As they are untying George they notice that the door (that was locked) is suddenly open. George says “it looks like you’ve got a friend on this boat”. Jumps back the the stairs.

A journal from the black rock, which was found in Madagascar (in the Indian ocean, yet we know the Black Rock is on the Island which we assume is somewhere in the Pacific) 7 years after the ship disappeared in 1845. It is stated that the contents of the journal have never been made public and are only known to the family of the seller, Tovard Hanso. The journal is lot number 2342. One of the people bidding on the journal happens to be Charles Widmore, he eventually wins the auction for the journal. After the action Des fronts up to Widmore asking how he can contact Penny, a little surprising (to me anyway) was that Widmore didn’t really question it, and gave Des her address. Back to the boat.

George takes Sayid and Des to the communication equipment, he then goes off on his own time adventure. Sayid starts to work out if he is able to fix the equipment. George has a little bit of a fit, and Des looks up at a calendar on the wall which reveals that its Dec 24th 2004, Des is surprised that its 2004. George wakes partially, and appears to be having a seizure, he’s now bleeding from both his eyes and his nose, he says that he “cant get back”, and then he dies.

Des flashes back and returns to the bathroom where he’d been talking to Widmore. He goes to see Penny, her address is 423 Cheyne Walk (which was a ‘clue’ that was revealed during the Find 815 ARG prior to season 4). He asks her for her phone number and tells her that he needs to tell her something and he knows its going to sound ridiculous. He tells her that 8 years from now he needs to call her, and that is why he needs her phone number. He promises that he won’t call her for 8 years, 24th Dec 2004. She gives him the number 7946 0893. Back to the boat.

Once he returns Des has to remember the number that Penny gave him, which he does. When he calls the number Penny eventually answers, and it’s Christmas where Penny is (ie, its 2004 Penny, same timeline as 2004 Desmond). Penny asks Des where he is, he tells her that he’s on a boat, and that he’s been on an island. Penny believes him and says that she has been searching for him for three years (remember the polar monitor station thingy at the end of season 2). She says she knows about the island, that she’s been researching, then there is some interference on the line. She says that she knew that Desmond was still alive after she spoke with Charlie (in the looking glass station communication room). They promise to find each other, then the line goes dead.

Back on the beach, Dan is looking through his journal, looks like he’s searching for something, he turns to a page which says “if anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be MY constant”. So, was this always in Dan’s journal? Or did it only appear after Des went back and met with him? Any number of possibilities probably, perhaps its one of the reasons Dan came to the island.

So Ben “moved” the island, how about that. First lets go back to episode 9 “The Shape of Thing to Come”, remember that Ben wakes up in the middle of the Sahara Desert (presumably in Tunisia) wearing that jacket with the Orchid station emblem, and the name Halliwax on it, and with a cut on his right arm. When he arrives at the hotel in Tunisia he asks what the date is… its October 21st 2005. Right, ok.

Ben told Locke that whoever moved the island couldn’t come back. He didn’t say anything about traveling over 10 months into the future at the same time. When Ben ‘moves’ the Island its around day 100-101, which would be around New Year’s Day 2005. It seems pretty straight-forward that Ben ends up in the Sahara as a direct result of moving the Island, especially since he’s still got the cut on the arm (from when he fell down the ladder), and he’s wearing the jacket with the same name on it.

So if Ben moved 10 months into the future, did the Island also move forward in time. Remember the orientation video that Locke starts to watch mentions the rabbit moving forward in time 100ms just before it starts to rewind itself, I can’t think of any mention of traveling back in time in any episodes, although Alpert visiting Locke when he’s about 5 might suggest otherwise.

If the Island has in fact moved ahead in time, thats going to make it a little difficult to find initially isn’t it. Not to mention if its actually moved its location as well. At the end of “The Shape of Things to Come”, when Ben visits Charles Widmore in London, Widmore says “you’ll never find it”, and that one day it’ll be his again, to which Ben also replies “but you’ll never find it”. Widmore finishes with “I guess the hunt is on for both of us”. So it appears that whenever this meeting took place (my guess would be late 2005 or early 2006) Ben still hadn’t relocated the island. Whether or not he has located it by the time he meets up with Jack at the Funeral parlor in the finale I suppose we’ll have to wait until next year to find out.

The episode begins with Locke cooking up some food which he takes down to Ben, who is now in the basement of the house Locke is living in. I guess this is/was probably Ben’s house, although I don’t know if its been mentioned or not. Locke tells Ben that they are the last two eggs, not sure why, is he trying to trick Ben. Ben has a go at Locke in an attempt to psych him out, it works and he definitely hits a nerve with Locke, who storms out taking the eggs with him.

Before we head off on the first flashforward, Sawyer is talking with Kate and asks her why she stayed, little elaboration is given. Now in the flashforward, Kate arrives to a rather large media frenzy, where is she arriving…a court house. In court one of the Lawyers rattles off the list of felonies for which she is being tried. I don’t think there was anything too surprising in there, I’d say we’ve probably seen just about all her crimes. Fraud, arson, armed robbery, theft, murder…you know the usual. Kate enters her plea of not guilty (even though she couldn’t be any more guilty if she tried), and when the prosecution try to have her remanded in custody because she’s a flight risk, Kate’s lawyer protests stating that she has on of the most recognisable faces in the world and is not a risk.

Back on the beach Jin is looking at a map of the US, and suggesting cities where he and Sun could move to when/if they get off the island. Sun doesn’t seem so enthusiastic about the prospect of living in the Us, and tells Jin that she want to raise her baby at home in Korea. Also of note, Jin seems to be picking up English rather quickly, and mentions that he’s doing is for Sun.

Kate pays Locke a visit, when he answers the door he’s wiping his hand clean of blood. He tells Kate that he’s just killed a chicken. Perhaps this was the last chicken, hence the “last two eggs” he gave Ben (thanks to Neil for pointing that out). Or maybe there are plenty of chickens left and he was lying to Ben. Kate wants to know where Miles is, but Locke won’t tell her. As Kate is leaving she spots Hurley, and without much fuss tricks him into revealing where Miles is being held.

Miles is being held in the boat shed, which is interesting in itself. Why? Because from the long shot of the barracks we see at the start of season 3 we know that they aren’t exactly close to water, so why/where is there a boat shed? Surely they didn’t take him on a trek for a couple of hours to the coast and put him in shed there, Locke would want to have him closer than that.

Anyway, when Kate arrives she begins to question Miles (this is the reason why she stayed behind). She asks “do you know who I am?” and “do you know what I did?”, presumably trying to find out if she’s still wanted back in the “real world”. Miles says that he will tell her everything he knows if she can get him one minute of someone’s time, that someone (of course) being Ben.

Off the island again, and Kate is talking with her lawyer., he is trying to convince that they should take a 15 year deal, as its probably the best they can hope for. He emphasises to her that they need to make it about her character and not what she did, and says that he wants to bring “him” into the court room. Kate tells him that “you’re not involving my child”.

Jack is still trying to get in contact with the freighter, but can’t get through. He’s worried because they still haven’t heard from Sayid. Afterall the chopper shouldn’t have taken more than an hour to get to the boat. Right?

At the barracks Kate and Claire a doing some washing, and Claire asks Kate if she will pick up Aaron to comfort him. Kate is very reluctant, saying she doesn’t think she should.

In court again, and proceedings are about to resume when Kate’s lawyer whispers in her ear “don’t kill me”, before he calls Jack to the witness stand. Jack certainly has an interesting story to tell. Just some of the points he brings up include, that they crashed on an island in the south Pacific, that the Marshall died in the crash and that he never spoke to him, that only 8 survived the crash and that they all landed in the water, and that Kate was a hero she helped everyone, performing first aid and bringing them water etc etc. Kate gets visibly uncomfortable and asks Jack to stop talking.

The prosecution then get their turn with Jack and their only question is as to whether or not Jack is in love with Kate. Jack’s response? No, not anymore. Why, what has happened since leaving the island (or on the island before they left perhaps) to make him say that, presuming of course that its not just a ‘story’ like the rest of what he just said.

Kate pays Sawyer a visit, asking him to help her bust Ben out. When Saywer arrives to challenge Locke to a game of backgammon, it appear that he might be helping Kate. Instead he tells Locke about Kate’s proposal, which prompts Locke to head off to have a chat with Miles at the boat house. Only problem is that when he gets there Miles is gone.

Miles is actually with Kate, so I guess Sawyer did help after-all. They have arrived at Locke’s house in order to find Ben. They break in and Kate takes Miles down to see Ben. Not sure how she knew exactly where to find Ben though. As requested she give Miles one minute with Ben. Ben knows who Miles is working for and why they are looking for him. Miles basically try to blackmail Ben, telling him that he’s willing to tell his employers that Ben is already dead…all so long as Ben gives him $3.2 million. He also tells Ben that “I know who you are, what you can do”. Ben agrees to try and get him the money.

It’ll be interesting as to how/where Ben is going to get that amount of money in such a short time. As promised, Miles reveals to Kate that he (as well as the rest of the freighter people) know who she is and what she did. He tells her that she should probably stay on the island. Its about now that Locke returns and discovers them.

A little later on Locke visits Kate, he doens’t want to know why she did it, all he wants to know is what they said to each other. Locke then tells Kate that shes not welcome there anymore and to be gone by morning.

Flashing forward again and Kate is visited by her Mother. She tells Kate that she doesn’t want to testify anymore, and that she just wants to see her grandson. Kate flat out refuses.

Back on the island we seen Charlotte and Dan. Dan is trying to remember which three cards are in front of him. When he gets 2 out of 3 correct Charlotte remarks that it is progress. What? Did he see the cards before they were turned over, and he is having trouble with his short term emory. Did he not see the cards at all and is using some sort of psychic ability to identify the cards. I guess we will (maybe) find out eventually what its all about.

Sine they still haven’t heard from Sayid, or anyone else on the freighter, Jack confronts Charlotte and says there must be another way of contacting the boat. She tells him that there is another line, but they are only meant to use it for emergencies. When the call, Regina answers, and when they ask about the chopper, she says she thought it was there with them. In other words it hasn’t arrived yet…why?

Locke pays Miles a visit, and asks him to open his mouth. Locke pulls a grenade out of his pocket, pulls the pin and wedges it in between Miles’ teeth. Tells him that if there’s going to be rules there needs to be punishment for breaking them, and that the grenade should help him keep his mouth shut in future.

After spending the night at Sawyer’s, Kate tells him that she’s not pregnant, and that she is sure. To say Sawyer is relieved would be an understatement, he’s very relieved, and maybe he shows that a little too much. Kate doesn’t seem too impress and leaves pretty much straight away.

Back at the court house, and the prosecution says that there witness, Kate’s mother, can’t appear due to medical reasons, the hearing is adjourned. Kate and her lawyer meets with the prosecution to discuss a deal. Her lawyer mentioned how Kate saved 5 other people and almost starved to death on a deserted island. After pleading for no jail time, she is offered time already served, 10 years probation, and that she must not leave the state. Kate makes no hesitation is accepting the offer. She just wants it to be over.

As Kate is leaving via the court’s rear exit, Jack is waiting for her. Kate says that she heard him tell that story so many times that she thinks he’s starting to believe it. Jack says that what he said (about not loving her) wasn’t true, and that they should get coffee. Kate suggests that he should visit, but he’s very reluctant to do that. We don’t really know why, but its probably got something to do with the child…

Kate arrives back home (a very large home mind you, must have been purchased with the money from the Oceanic settlement). She’s met by what I assume is a housekeeper or nanny, who says that she’s just put him down for a nap. Kate goes upstairs to see her son. When he wakes he says ‘Hi Mommy’, Kate replies, ‘Hi Aaron’.

I really wish that it was a big surprise for me, but unfortunately in my need for information during the ‘off season’ I was reading the occasional spoiler. Most of them weren’t much, that was until I read that Aaron would be off the Island and with Kate. That was the last spoiler I read.

This week’s contestant on the magical mystery ride that is Lost is Sayid. He’s won a golfing holiday and a new job.

The opening sequence sees Sayid meditating, or something like that, before getting up and walking toward Naomi’s body where he puts his hand over her eyes and closes her eyelids. Why they hadn’t already done that I’m not sure. He removes a bracelet that she was wearing, on the inside is an inscription which reads “N, I’ll always be with you. R.G.”. This begs the question who is R.G., and how are they connected.

To the first ‘flash’ of the episode, and we see Sayid playing golf when he is approached my a man. After a brief talk Sayid reveals to this man that he was the recipient of a large amount of compensation, from a plane crash, and that he is one of the Oceanic 6, instantly this guy looks worried, why? As the man goes to leave Sayid calls out to him by name, “Mr Avellino”, and as he turns around Sayid shoots him and then leaves. Seemingly Sayid has gone bad since leaving the island, but why? And who exactly was Mr Avellino and why did Sayid kill him?

Sayid, now in Germany, enters a cafe where he meets Elsa. When Elsa asks what he does, Sayid replies that he’s a “head hunter”, fair enough. Not in the corporate way that he explains, but better than saying hitman. Elsa mentions that her employer is an ‘economist’.

When Elsa asks Sayid “do I know you”, its fair to assume that she recognises him because he is one of the Oceanic 6. Whether or not that is the only reason why she recognises him is another thing altogether, since at this point neither of their motives have been fully revealed.

Back on the island Sayid shows Jack, Kate and Juliet the photo of Desmond and Penny that Naomi was carrying. Juliet sets off for the beach to get Desmond so they can find out if he knows anything more.

Meanwhile ‘Team Locke’ are still moving towards the barracks, via the cabin of course. But when they arrive where Locke believes the cabin should have been it’s…well…gone. Maybe he should have listened to Hurley when he said it was in the other direction.

It’s at this point when Hurley begins to show some resistance to Locke and his decisions, looking back this sets up what happens later on after they reach the barracks.

Miles’ reaction to the death of Naomi and his comments about Charlotte seems to point to some disunity between the people on the freighter. Interestingly Miles doesn’t seem to care that Charlotte is being held captive by Locke, but Dan seems quite relieved when she returns.

Flashing forward again, and Sayid arrives to take Elsa out. Knowing what Elsa’s motives are I wonder if she chose to leave the pager behind as a test to see how Sayid would react. I’m guessing since he insists that she takes it, that he failed the test… It’s at this point that Elsa asks if he has a boss. “Everyone has a boss”.

Back at the helicopter Dan is setting up some sort of equipment. He asks Frank if he can use the sat phone, and Frank tells him to hang up if Minkowski answers. This isn’t the first time that has been said either. In contrast Miles would only talk to Minkowski. There’s definitely some division amongst them.

So Dan is on the phone with Regina and he tells her to “fire the payload”, she counts down its distance til arrival as it gets closer, finally reaching zero. According to Regina the payload arrived, but nothing has actually arrived where(when) Dan is. Regina says that its “weird”, Dan says its “far more than weird”.

When Kate, Sayid and Miles arrive at the barracks they discover Hurley tied up in one of the houses. He tells them that Locke left him behind and that Locke’s gone nuts. Hurley asks Miles if they (the freighters) are there to kill them, to which Miles, rather creepily, replies “not yet”.

Back to the helicopter again and the payload finally arrives. Upon its arrival Dan gets out a clock and compares it to the clock that was on the payload. Theres a 31 minute difference between them, and they were both started at the same time. What the?

Kate, Sayid and Miles head over to Ben’s house, little do they know but they have been set up and are walking straight into Locke’s ‘trap’. The moment when Sawyer walks into the room where Kate is is very similar to Sawyer’s flashback scene where he is hiding under a bed and sees his father walk in.

While searching through Ben’s house Sayid discovers a secret room hidden behind a bookcase. Inside there is a whole stack of clothes, plus a pile of passports and currency from different countries. Now why would Ben need those….

Locke turns up and its revealed that Hurley helped set them up. As they are leading Sayid away, he says he’s not angry at Hurley, but Hurley choose to keep his distance because he’s seen “that break dance, neck snap thing, he does with his legs”.

When Locke brings Sayid a drink, he mentions that he had questioned Miles. What did he ask him, and more importantly what ‘answers’, if any, did Miles give him. Sayid then arranges his deal to swap Charlotte for Miles.

Back to the flash forward, and Sayid reveals to Elsa that it is her boss that he is “head hunting”, and he tells her that she should leave town, trying to protect her. She plays the victim, and Sayid tells her that the man she works for is “not an economist” (so who/what is he?), at this point she turns around and shoot Sayid.

Elsa then calls the Economist and its revealed that they are trying to find out the identity of Sayid’s employer, and that she hasn’t killed him because he hasn’t given up the name yet. Sayid spots a gun, then creates a distraction to get Elsa’a attention, and when she turns back around he shoots and kills her. After Elsa dies we see that she is wearing a bracelet that is very simliar to the bracelet that Naomi was wearing. Is this implying a link between Naomi and Elsa, perhaps the same employer(s).

Desmond confronts Frank with the photo of him and Penny, and asks him if he knows why Naomi was carrying the photo. He then asks Frank if he knows anything of Penelope Widmore. Frank doesn’t deny knowing about her, in fact he doesn’t say anything at all, which is even more interesting. Desmond decides that when the chopper leaves he’s going to be on it.

Sayid returns from the barracks with Charlotte, as promised, but without Kate and Miles. He tells Frank that he swapped Charlotte for Miles, Frank seemed ok with that. When Jack asks where Kate is, Sayid says that she decided to stay.

As they (Frank, Sayid and Des) are preparing to leave Frank offers the last seat to Charlotte she declines saying that she has a lot of work to do. Dan also stresses to Frank that he must follow the exact same bearing that they came in on. No matter what. He doesn’t elaborate, but I’m guessing it connected the those missing 31 minutes from earlier…

Now for the final twist. Sayid arrives at what looks like a vet hospital (remember he’s been shot). He enters a room, sits down and a mysterious voice tells him to “take his shirt off”. We see that someone is patching Sayid up, then the voice asks “is she dead?”. Sayid says that she wanted to know about you. Then the reveal that it is Ben who is patching Sayid up, and that Ben is who Sayid is working for. Ben says “you want to protect your friends don’t you?”, and he tells Sayid that he has another name for him. Sayid replies “but they know I’m after them”, to which Ben simple responds “good”.

Better late than never, but sometime you can not help these things. Onwards. The Losties all 324 of them are confirmed dead…really? but…but?

We open with a familiar scene to anyone who was following the Fund 815 ARG in the lead up to the premiere, we see two remotely operated vehicles (ROV) searching for something in the depths of the ocean. Low and behold what do they find but the wreckage of Oceanic 815 at the bottom of a trench.

There are a couple of inconsistencies between the way it played out in this episode and how it played out in Find815, but I think thats probably something to do with them being produced separately. After all they do say that it was the crew of the Christiane 1 that found it, so that fits, but in Find 815 there was only one ROV. At least I’m pretty sure there was.

They do mentioned that they are following a “guys map”, not sure who’s map this would be though. In Find815 they were searching in a rough area supposedly mentioned the journals of Magnus Hanso (captain of the Black Rock), but they weren’t following it as such.

The first of the freighters to be introduced via flashback is Daniel Faraday and we see him sitting watching the news about the discovery of 815. What’s more is he’s just sitting there sobbing, when asked why he replies he doesn’t know. Odd. The on screen text tells us that he’s in Essex Massachusetts, is this significant? I don’t know yet, but I kind of feel it might be otherwise why tell us?

Back on the island Daniel phones George on the boat to find out where everyone else is. George didn’t seem to pleased when he realised he was on speaker phone, I wonder why that is? And I wonder what the conversation he had with Dan after that was.

Meanwhile with Team Locke, Locke is upto his old tricks, you know, the one where he is standing in the rain and he says its about to stop…and then it does. How does he do that, bit creepy really.

When Locke tells them that they are heading towards the cabin Hurley says “I thought the cabin was back that way”. Why did Locke seem surprised? See if it ‘was’ Locke in the Cabin when Hurley found it, then he would have understood what Hurley was talking about. Maybe he did understand, but was pretending to not know what Hurley was talking about. Maybe it simply wasn’t Locke in the cabin. You could also sense that Ben knew what they were talking about.

Then Locke justs drops that Walt told him what to do…well thats what he thinks anyway…

Why were the freighters carrying what appears to be some sort of hazmat gear? When Jack discovers the metal case its got gas masks, and something red, are they protective suits maybe? Like what we saw Kelvin and Desmond wearing while they were in the Swan station.

“Rescuing you and your people, can’t say its our primary objective”. Now thats something that if it were season 2 or 3 would have been left right there, but instead we actually find out why they are really there by the end of the episode.

Locke says that he probably would have died if he still had his kidney, I wonder if Ben intentionally shot him there because he knew that the was missing that kidney.

The second freighter to be introduced was Miles. We see that his flashback is taking place in Inglewood California, again the significance of this is unknown. Apart from the fact that Miles’ flashback is just plain strange why did they focus so much on the picture frames more to the point why do they change from wooden to metal frames. So he’s a “ghostbuster”? Talking to the dead? I can see the potential usefulness of a “skill” like that on the island.

Miles reveals who Naomi’s sister is…dur…it was code for “help I’ve got a gun to my head”. Kind of figured that would be the case.

Back at Team Locke again, Ben is trying to talk to Alex and is about to tell her something before Carl “bravely” interrupts. I wonder what he was going to tell her. Maybe he was going to try and convince her to run off into the jungle so that the freighters can’t find her.

After Kate and Jack take Miles and Dan back to Naomi’s body Miles kneels down and “does his thing” after which he actually believes what Kate had already explained to him. So does he really communicate with dead people, if so, how?

Anyone else notice that when Sayid and Juliet turn up with the guns it was very much like the encounters that the losties used to have with the others, ie. friendly conversation going on, one side says “we’ve got people in the bushes with guns to your heads”…and what do you know they actually do.

The third freighter to be introduced is Charlotte. More specifically Charlotte Staples Lewis….C.S. Lewis. We find her in Medenine Tunisia at the site of an excavation. And what are they excavating…a freaking polar bear skeleton…in the middle of the desert no less. So why doesn’t this phase Charlotte, its almost as if she expected to find it there. How did she know to dig for the collar, and why did she smile when she saw the Dharma/Hydra station logo on the collar? Did she recognise it? Is that what she (or her employer…) was looking for?

Charlotte said that it was “amazing” that Claire had had Aaron while on the island. Was this a simple statement because Claire survived the plane crash and still had her baby while on the island or does Charlotte somehow know about the “issues” surrounding pregnancy on the island…

The fourth freighter to be introduced is Frank Lapidus. He’s in Eleuthera in the Bahamas and he’s watching the reports about Flight 815 on the news. The reports reveal the identity of the pilot to be Seth Norris, they are “confirming” that he was the pilot of 815 and are showing footage of his body in the wreckage. Frank notices that there is no wedding ring on Seth’s hand and calls to report what he knows. How does he know? Oh, it just happens that Frank was supposed to be flying 815 on the day is crashed/disappeared. Question is, why wasn’t Frank the pilot? He’s later referred to as “a drunk” so maybe thats what “prevented” him from being on 815.

Presumably the bull that Frank encounters is one of the animals that was being kept at the Flame station. I seem to recall that there were a few animals there. That could also explain the horse that Kate saw a while back too.

In the lead up to Ben shooting Charlotte, you could see him eyeing off Carl’s gun.

In the final flashback we see Naomi seemingly being given her mission. So it would appear that she was the leader of their merry little troop, it’ll be interesting to see how things go without her around. Oh and who else would be handing out the instructions to her but Matthew Abaddon the mysterious man from Hurley’s flashforward in the last episode. So who are they working for? And why did they select the four people that they did? Interesting choices, were they chosen simply for the areas of expertise or for a different reason? Abaddon was also very adamant that “there were no survivors” of flight 815.

Back to the island again. When Miles calls the ship to speak with George he’s not available, so why couldn’t he just tell Regina what he wanted to say, or get her to pass on the message. I sense disunity amongst the freighters.

When Frank realises that Juliet wasn’t on the plane he refers to her as a native, but she’s not truly a native (who is?) since she’s has only been there for about 3 or so years. Miles storms towards her asking “where is he”, he who? he’s just assuming that she instantly knows who they are looking for.

Now we get the big reveal, the freighters are looking for Ben. But they don’t tell us why, typical. The photo they have of Ben looks like it could have possibly been taken at an airport, but it definitely seems to be somewhere off the island, where? And perhaps more importantly, when?

My personal favourite moment from this episode was when Locke is threatening to kill Ben (again), Ben says that he has answers. Locke flat out asks the question we’ve all been asking since the very beginning, “what is the monster, the black smoke”? Ben says he doesn’t know, could it be true that Ben truly doesn’t know what it is. After all the Others do have that sonic fence to keep it away from the barracks, and the fence precedes Ben’s arrival on the island.

Then Ben starts to rattle off a large amount of facts about the identifies of the people from the freighter, on piece of information was that Charlotte was born in Essex, England. Is this a deliberate connection between her and Dan? (remember his flashback took place in Essex Massachusetts). Not that it matters really…

Oh, and how does Ben have all this wonderful knowledge about the freighters… because he has a man on the boat. Damn. Who? is it someone we already know about ie. Regina or George? or are there even more people on the boat we don’t know about yet.

I’ve already covered bits of this in a couple of other posts, but episode 2 “Confirmed Dead” adds some interesting points to my argument.

On the Island it is supposedly almost Christmas 2004, remembering that the plane crashed on the 22nd September 2004.

In Find815 the main character Sam made mention that he wouldn’t be home for Christmas (no year mentioned), which would lead you to believe that the expedition he was on was taking place around December/January. Originally I thought this was taking place at the end of 2007/start of 2008, to coincide with the “press release” from Oceanic stating that they would begin flying again on the 31st December 2007. Seemed to make sense that they would abandon the search, and then resume flying. Right?

The conclusion of Find815 saw the discovery of Flight 815 in the Sunda trench. This is then reported at the beginning of “Confirmed Dead” linking the two stories together, but creating more questions than it answers…as usual.

In order for the team of Freighters to be assembled and then sent to Island you could assume that the “wreckage” of 815 was discovered no later than mid-December 2004. Of course its likely that it could have been discovered earlier, but thats not my argument. Even if what we saw in Find815 was taking place in 2004 it doesn’t line up, since the freighters have landed on the island before Sam Thomas and Christiane 1 have discovered the wreckage…

From ‘Confirmed Dead’, we know that the wreckage was definitely discovered before they were assembled and sent to the island. So the question is, were the ‘flashes’ that we saw in this episode ‘flashbacks’ or ‘flashforwards’…stay with me.

I have a theory that the freighter is in fact connected to Penny, but not the Penny that Charlie spoke to when he disabled the jamming equipment. That was 2004 Penny, who knows nothing about any freighter. A ‘future’ Penny might know something about it. Why do I think Penny is connected to the boat, because when Naomi first lands on the Island she is in possession of a photo of Desmond and Penny.

Timeline could then be something like this. Plane crashes in September 2004, wreckage found end of 2004 (by Christiane 1), freighters assembled in 2005, freighters land on Island end of 2005 (their time…which is only the end of 2004 on the island), some of the Losties are rescued early 2006, Hurley goes nuts late 2006, Jack goes nuts early 2007…weirdness ensues…Jack gets back to the island for the series finale…

In other words time on the island is running at a different rate to time off the island. And really what other good reason is there for the obvious lack of years being mentioned around certain events if there is nothing strange happening. I think that makes sense.

So Lost has finally returned, and now that the first episode has aired here in Australia I can fairly safely share my thoughts without spoiling things. This will be the case each week, so effectively I’ll be a week behind with my theorisations.

I don’t know about everyone else but I almost instantly picked up that it was Jack who was watching the TV at the beginning. Not sure why, maybe it was that he was having some sort of alcoholic drink early in the morning, or maybe because up to this point all season premieres had revolved around Jack.

Nearing the end of Hurley’s car chase he goes crashing through a large number of mirrors, this is either a continuation of the bad luck he was experiencing before the crash, or he’s just guaranteed himself many more years of bad luck to come.

After being arrested Hurley pleads, “don’t you know who I am, I’m one of the Oceanic Six!”. So we now know that Jack, Kate and Hurley manage to get off the island, and its fair to assume that they are 3 of the 6, but who are the other 3? If things I’ve read are correct then no one I’ve talked to has been correct yet. Does this also mean that only six people are going to get off the island?

The cop that is interviewing Hurley just happens to be one of Ana-Lucia’s ex-partners. When he asks Hurley if he had met Ana-Lucia on the plane, Hurley says that he didn’t. There are a couple of interesting points here, Hurley is asked if he met her on the plane, not if he met her after the crash/on the island. Why did Hurley lie? (well technically, he wasn’t since he didn’t meet her until after the crash anyway) And why did the cop not mention the crash or the island?

When Hurley has one of his “moments” and sees Charlie swim towards the glass, Charlie presses his hand against the glass and written on his hand is “they need you”. Who are “they”? My guess is its referring to whoever they left behind on the island, but there are any number of possibilities I guess. And why did Hurley have this vision, seems strange that he is having a vision of an event that happened but that he didn’t witness.

Back on the island, why is Ben so certain that everyone on the island is going to be killed? What does he know that has led him to believe this?

After Naomi disappears (seems to be a re-occurring theme, after Patchy did the same thing last season) Rousseau finds a blood trail, and so does Kate. I found it a little strange that Jack chose to go with the trail that Rousseau found and not Kate’s. I wonder why. As it turned out, he should have trusted Kate. So what was the trail that Rousseau found? Surely Naomi wasn’t in a good enough state to leave a fake trail.

When Jack can’t find the phone, Ben tells him that Kate took it when they hugged. When they hug, you can tell just by watching Ben’s facial expression that Kate has taken the phone. I didn’t pick this up until I watched for the second time. Ben also tells Jack that he followed the wrong trail, and that Kate was right. Presumably he know this because he saw which way Naomi went, but does he also know what the trail was that Rousseau led them to follow?

Now back at the Santa Rosa nut house, Hurley is playing connect four when he gets a visit from a man, Matthew Abaddon, claiming to be an attorney for Oceanic Air. When Hurley questions that, not surprisingly, he doesn’t have any ID on him. So who was he? Maybe he’s connected to Dharma, maybe Widmore Industries, maybe the the freighters, or maybe he actually is a representative of Oceanic.

He offers Hurley an ‘upgrade’, I wonder what that would involve, I have a feeling that it wasn’t in order to make Hurley more comfortable, but so that he could be more closely monitored. It seems that Abaddon’s intentions aren’t all good when he asks Hurley “are they still alive?” and Hurley flips his lid. Is this the same “they” that Charlie’s message was referring to? Have the Oceanic Six told the rest of the world that they are in fact the only survivors? Is this the guilt that is making Jack crazy in the season 3 finale?

After Naomi jumps down from the trees onto Kate she is in contact with the freighter to recalibrate some of the settings on the phone, and she says “tell my sister I love her”, who is her sister? I wonder…

Hurley falls behind the others and stumbles across Jacob’s cabin, when he looks inside Christian Shephard can be seen sitting in Jacob’s rocking chair. What is the significance of this? It’s worth mentioning that this is the first time that someone other than Jack (except for Vincent) has seen Christian. Then suddenly an eye appears at the window glaring straight back at Hurley. Who was it? Jacob? Since Locke appears very soon after the cabin seems to vanish into thin air, I think it was actually Locke…if it was Locke in the cabin, could he also see Christian? And how/why did the cabin move places, was this all in Hurley’s mind?

Back at Santa Rosa again, and Hurley is seen painting a picture of an igloo with one person. Is this connected in someway back to the two guys in the arctic from the very end of season 2.

When the other patient tells Hurley that there is someone watching him, he turns to see Charlie. Question is if Charlie is dead, how did the other guy see him too? Or was the other guy also part of Hurley’s imagination? Charlie says to Hurley “I am dead, but I am also here”, what the hell does that mean? Is he “here” as in physically right here, right now, or “here” as in Hurley’s mentally unstable imagination? Again it would appear that Charlie is there to deliver some sort of message, telling Hurley that “they need you, you know they need you”.

Remember when Jack said that he was going to kill Locke the next time he saw him, I bet very few would have picked that he would point the gun at him and pull the trigger without hesitation.

When Kate returns she tells them that Naomi had just died and that she didn’t tell her people what had happened. But honestly with the number of dead people that seem to keep coming back to life, I’m not convinced that she will stay dead, after all she was dead at the start of the episode too. And why did Naomi cover up the fact that she was killed by Locke? Is it because she still want the rest of her people to come to the island? Or if you believe Ben, is it because it won’t make any difference, since they intend to kill them all anyway?

How did Jack know where to find Hurley? He just seems to turn up. I guess that since he’s one of the “Oceanic Six” he might have been able to find out easier but it seemed a little strange that he just appeared there. Jack mentions that he’s thinking about growing a beard, which clearly places this flash forward before the flash forward from the end of season 3.

Hurley questions why Jack is there to see him, asking if he just wanted to know “if I was going to tell”, to which Jack responds “are you?”. Tell what? What is it that they are hiding? They are obviously hiding something, because Hurley lied about Ana-Lucia, Abaddon asked if “they” were still alive and now Jack is making sure Hurley won’t “tell”. Interesting.

Hurley tells Jack that he’s sorry he went with Locke. So how long after the “rescue” does this take place? Surely Jack and Hurley would have seen each other before now, and would have cleared this up already. As Jack is leaving Hurley says “I don’t think we did the right thing”, “I think it wants us to go back, and it’s going to do everything it can”. Who/what is “it”, the Island? Jacob? Locke? Ben? I’m guessing he’s referring to the island, and that the island is what was causing him to see Charlie, and they weren’t just visions of a crazy man.

Jack responds “we’re never going back”, to which Hurley replies “never say never”. Is this what sets Jack down the path that we see in the season 3 finale.

I’m also planning to post my thoughts and observations from the 13 mobisodes, and the Find815 ARG that were happening over the past couple of months. All in good time.
